Bio
Dr. Basheer Khumawala is currently the John & Rebecca Moores Professor of Supply Chain Management. Prior to coming to UH he was Professor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he has started his academic career after having served in the industry. He has also served on the faculties of Business schools at Rice, Clemson, Purdue & Kent State in the U.S. & at several Universities abroad, notably in India, Ecuador, Mexico, Saudi Arabia & Qatar. His teaching and research areas are Supply Chain Management, production operations and logistics management. He has chaired & mentored a large number of Ph.D. & Master's students both at UNC & UH and his students can be found holding faculty positions in reputable Universities in the U.S. & overseas and in governmental organizations and corporations.
His academic and applied research is widely published which include publications in prestigious journals, such as Management Science, AIIE Transactions, Journal of Operations Management, Decision Sciences, Geographical Analysis, Sloan Management Review, Naval Research Logistics Quarterly, International Journal of Production Research, Production & Inventory Management. He has also served on editorial boards of several of these journals. He is a Fellow of the Decision Sciences Institute & Fellow of the Pan Pacific Business Association and Senior Fulbright Faculty.
Among his service at UH includes service on the Faculty Senate, Faculty Affairs Committee, Chair of the UH Promotion & Tenure Committee, Chair of the Management Systems and Strategy department, Chair of the Decision & Information Sciences department, and a whole host of committees at the department, College & University levels.
He is a recipient of numerous awards & honors which include invitation to the White House by the President of the United States, invitation to the Governor's mansion by the Governor of Texas, a day named after him by the Mayor of Houston, invited speaker in the Texas Senate, invited speaker at commencements at Rice University & at Bauer, He is also very active in the broader Houston community and serves on several boards.
He received his Ph.D. in Industrial Administration from the Krannert School of Management at Purdue University.
