File a Degree Plan in Business

Students may use the form at the bottom of this page to declare or change a major in Business. This form is not to be used if you are trying to declare Pre-business. Please go to this site in order to declare Pre-business.

Overview

We are happy that you are progressing towards a degree in Business! Keep in mind that current Pre-business students must meet minimum requirements. Please see the checklist before filling out the application form to make sure you qualify. If all looks good, please fill out the form. You will be notified by email.

Checklist to Qualify

  • You must be a PREBUSINESS major
  • You must have a minimum 2.5 UH GPA
  • Clear the Business Writing Evaluation (BWE) - students who meet all filing requirements except the BWE are allowed to file and have a one-semester exception to re-take the BWE (re-takes are given in the fall and spring semesters; instructions are sent to students needing a re-take during the first week of the fall and spring semesters)
  • Pass the Excel Competency Exam or completion of MIS 3300 (BCIS 1305 at UH starting Fall 2020) with a grade of "C" or higher
  • You must have credit for the courses listed below under the catalog year degree plan you request and for which you are eligible.
  • When filling out the Request Form, students should select either the "Fall 2018" or "Fall 2019" or "Fall 2020 Degree Plan." For questions on which to select, consult your academic advisor.

"Fall 2018" or "Fall 2019" or "Fall 2020"?

Explanation of Catalog Year Degree Plans

Students who enrolled at UH prior to Fall 2019 are under the "Fall 2018" degree plan but may request to move forward to the "Fall 2019" or the "Fall 2020" degree plan. Students who enrolled at UH in Fall 2019 – Summer 2020 are under the "2019" degree plan but may request to move forward to the "Fall 2020" degree plan. Transfer students who started at a Texas public two- or four-year school and have been continuously enrolled, and were following an older plan prior to attending UH should consult their advisor on which plan best fits their situation.

Students may not mix and match requirements. For example, a student under the "Fall 2019" degree plan may not substitute a speech course for MARK 3337. The chart below outlines the significant differences in the three degree plans (see the links to the Fall 2018 and Fall 2019 and Fall 2020 degree plans for a complete list of all B.B.A. degree requirements). For questions on which plan is appropriate for you, consult your academic advisor. Also, note that some course numbers are changing starting Fall 2020 that will cross all degree plans. For a list of those changes, see "Course Number Changes for Fall 2020."
