Sample Plan of Study

In order to prepare our students for research-oriented careers, we require our students take courses in economics, finance, statistics, and academic communication. The plan of study can be tailored to each student’s career path based on discussions with the student’s faculty advisor and the PhD coordinator.

First Year

Fall Semester: Econometrics I, Financial Economics, Microeconomics I
Spring Semester: Empirical Corporate Finance, Options & Futures, Elective
Summer: Summer Project or Prepare for Retake of Comprehensive Exam

Second Year

Fall Semester Investments, Electives (2) or Independent Study
Spring Semester: Electives (2) and Independent Study to prepare for Empirical Paper
Summer: Empirical Paper

Third Year

Fall & Spring Semesters: Independent Studies to Prepare Dissertation Proposal
Summer: Prepare for Dissertation Proposal Defense.

Forth Year and Beyond

Fall, Spring & Summer Semesters: Dissertation Hours to Prepare for Dissertation Defense
