CPA-Ready Accounting Curriculum Effective Fall 2026
Beginning Fall 2026, our undergraduate accounting curriculum is enhanced to prepare students for the core areas of the CPA Exam in Texas. Here's what's new:

ACCT 2304: Accounting, Business and the World
- Open to ALL Bauer students, Freshman through Senior year, this unique seminar offers opportunities to develop soft skills and connect weekly with leading public and industry accounting professionals. Gain real-world insights, build your network, and discover opportunities within accounting.

ACCT 3337: Introduction to Data Analytics (Required for Fall 2026 Accounting Degree Plan)
- Gain essential skills in analyzing and interpreting large datasets, preparing you for the technology-driven future of accounting. This course is required for students on the Fall 2026 degree plan.

ACCT 4330: Advanced Accounting
- Expand your understanding of advanced accounting topics, crucial for in-depth financial reporting and analysis.
- Offered as ACCT 7330 through the Accelerated Pathway Program for seniors intending to pursue the MS in Accountancy (MSACCY) program. Only available for traditional program undergraduate and MSACCY students.

ACCT 4332: Corporate Taxation
- Dive into the complexities of corporate taxation – essential for many accounting careers.
- Offered as ACCT 7375 through the Accelerated Pathway Program for seniors intending to pursue the MS in Accountancy (MSACCY) program. Only available for traditional program undergraduate and MSACCY students.
CPA-Ready and Standard Accounting Pathways
Students can shape their path within the BBA in Accounting by selecting either the CPA-ready or standard accounting pathway. Both pathways include Introduction to Data Analytics and offer access to the Accounting, Business and the World seminar, a recommended class for building connections in the profession.

What courses do I need to take to fulfill education requirements for CPA Exam and certification?
Students are encouraged to submit the Application of Intent as early as their third year as an accounting major to confirm Exam requirements. The Application of Intent package is found on the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy website here. Additionally, the requirements for Certification are outlined here.

When do these curriculum changes take effect?
The changes will be effective Fall 2026.

If I am a current accounting major, will I need to change my degree plan?
Current accounting majors will have the option to remain on their current degree plan.

Who needs to take the Introduction to Data Analytics course?
Introduction to Data Analytics in Accounting will be required for accounting majors following the Fall 2026 degree plan; this course will be optional for Accounting majors following iterations of the degree plan prior to Fall 2026.

Accounting, Business and the World is strongly encouraged for students who want to grow their network, make the most of their academic journey, and make informed decisions about their career path.

Who can take the new courses being offered under the curriculum change?
While Introduction to Data Analytics will be required for accounting majors following the Fall 2026 degree plan, the additional courses being offered will be open to all accounting majors. Additionally, the new seminar course, Accounting, Business and the World will be open to all Bauer students.
