Jinghui (Jove) Hou

Assistant Professor

Bio

Jinghui (Jove) Hou is an Assistant Professor of Information Systems in the Department of Decision and Information Sciences in the Bauer College of Business, University of Houston.

The driving force behind Jove's keen interests in information systems is a commitment to finding (theory-driven) ways to develop technologies that promote self-beneficial and pro-social behaviors. Her current research pertains to artificial intelligence (algorithms and applications), IT-mediated markets (e-commerce, IT-powered retailing, service robots), and theory building that incorporates machine-learning in the contexts of online consumer reviews, health informatics, and fake news.

Primarily as an experimentalist, Jove uses a variety of methodologies in her research, including laboratory and field experiment, natural or quasi experiment, econometrics, text-mining, survey and content analysis, social network analysis, and interview and focus groups. Her work advocates and entails multi-methods/studies and triangulation to provide more robust and valid findings.

As co-Principle Investigator, Jove has been funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF) 2016-19. She received the 2022 Wayne and Kathryn E. Payne Award for Excellence in Teaching from the Bauer College of Business, University of Houston. She received the 2021 Ostrofsky Research Award in Outstanding MIS Research. Jove was also a 2021 and a 2022 Bauer Research Star. Before joining the UH, Jove was an Assistant Professor at the Florida State University, where she received the 2018 Outstanding Faculty Research Recognition Award.
