- Learn what style of note taking works best for you. Some students prefer pen and paper, while some prefer typing their notes on a laptop or tablet. It is best to use whichever method you are most comfortable with to take notes. This will ensure that you are able to quickly take notes and pay attention at the same time.
- Create a shorthand for yourself. It is not possible or helpful to write down everything on each slide word for word. Make sure you focus on the big picture and write supporting notes. Learn to use abbreviations.
- Skim the readings before and after lectures. This will ensure that you are familiar with the material and are not completely lost when the professor is lecturing. It will help you takes notes more efficiently when you have seen some of the content before.
