Learning Abroad: Chile

Chile

International Travel Information

Participants must have a valid passport. Because a copy of your passport is required to sign up for the trip, if you do not have one you should apply for one as soon as possible. Students that are not U.S. citizens may require a Visa to enter/exit Chile. It is the student's responsibility to verify visa requirements for their nationality. It is also the student's responsibility to acquire all necessary visas. Go to the state department's web site to get more information about international travel.

Given the length of the flight and overnight flight effects, you will need to plan on departing early enough to arrive at least by late morning Sunday. From Houston, an evening flight out on Saturday will arrive in Santiago by mid-morning Sunday. Evening flights departing Saturday should return you home by mid-day Sunday.

Of course, you are free to add vacation time either before the program begins or after (if you aren't planning to enroll in traditional Spring courses).

Airlines

You are free to make arrangements to Santiago on any carrier available. United Airlines now offers direct flights from Houston – Santiago. If you are a member of frequent flyer programs, you may be able to take advantage of those programs. Check with the airlines' program representatives. You may also be able to get better rates through a corporate discount program within your company, so be sure to check with internal travel offices.
