Frequently Asked Questions
Is the MS Business Analytics program a full-time program?
The MS in Business Analytics program can be completed on a full-time or part-time basis. It is up to the student to decide how many credit hours they choose to enroll in each semester.
Do I have to complete an internship to graduate from the programs?
The course will require a capstone class that will give students hands-on experience by making them work on a business-defined problem that focuses on data management and/or analytics
What are the courses a student will generally undertake in the program?
The MS in Business Analytics programs requires 36 semester credit hours. To see a complete course list visit the curriculum page.
Are there any prerequisites for the MS in Business Analytics program?
No. Although familiarity with certain open-source programming languages can potentially help coursework and improve academic performance, it is not required for admission. Admission decisions are made with such an assessment that the faculty believes the prospective student will be able to successfully complete all coursework without major academic challenge that cannot be overcome. If you are admitted (good for you!), there is no prerequisite that you need to worry about prior to starting your first semester. That said, it’s not a bad idea to self-acquire or solidify certain open-source programming and/or quantitative skills, such as R, Python, and probability theory.
What are your admission requirements?
Admission decisions will be based on a completed application, a résumé, a goal statement, official transcripts, appropriate standardized test scores such as the GRE or GMAT and three letters of recommendation.
Where do I submit GRE or GMAT scores? Do I have to take these tests?
Applicants are encouraged to submit GRE or GMAT scores from test taken within the last five years. The test scores must be reported directly to the C.T. Bauer College by the testing service.
The University of Houston Graduate School is pleased to offer a GRE/GMAT Waiver program for UH main campus undergraduate students. To qualify, students must have graduated from the University of Houston main campus within 3 years preceding the term for which they are applying. Students must also meet the minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.6. Applicants should note that this offer only waives the submission of GMAT or GRE scores from the application process but does not guarantee admission to the MS Business Analytics program.
Once admitting, am I automatically considered for scholarships and assistantships or do I apply for those separately?
Students that meet the requirements are eligible for University of Houston scholarships. The Bauer College of Business also offers scholarships for both domestic and international students. A single application is used for all Bauer College scholarships, which can be found at www.bauer.uh.edu/invest/scholarships. You can apply at any time. There is no deadline, but the earlier you apply, the more scholarships there are available for which you may be considered.
