Risk Management & Insurance Track and Minor

RMI Presentation

The Risk Management & Insurance Track in Finance (RMI) gives students the essential skills they need to manage risk in today's business world. The program provides foundational business skills for students seeking interesting and well-paying jobs in a wide range of career paths. (Jobs in Risk Management)

Classes are taught by industry professionals, all of whom are successful risk management executives in their particular fields of concentration. (Risk Management Professors)

The RMI program offers engaging, interactive classes that emphasize “real world” situations. The coursework is designed to give students the skills they need to deal with typical risk issues in the modern business arena. Additionally, our guest speaker activities afford students the opportunity to meet and network with key leaders in the risk management community of Houston.

All students, whether declared for the RMI Track or not, are encouraged to join Gamma Iota Sigma. GIS is an international risk management fraternity formed to facilitate greater understanding of the risk management profession and to enable students to visit leading insurance companies, large agencies and key corporate risk departments city-wide.

Students of the RMI Track in Finance are finance majors who take a series of pre-selected risk management and insurance finance courses in their junior and senior years. Students who successfully complete the program will receive a BBA in Finance with a certificate in Risk Management & Insurance.

Non-finance majors have the option of completing a Minor in Risk Management & Insurance. Typical majors that minor in RMI include Accounting, Marketing, Management and Math, but the minor is open to any student interested in learning more about the risk management and insurance industry.

A 3.00 UH GPA is required to file for the Risk Management & Insurance Track or Minor.
