Taking the Exam

Students who have credit for MIS 1FOS or MIS 13FS must pass the Excel Competency Exam in order to progress with their business degree.

The exam will be offered online through the MIS 3000 Canvas course on a Saturday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at least once per month. Students will have 90 minutes to complete the exam during the three hour exam window. The exam may only be taken once per exam date.

Students will be uploaded to the MIS 3000 course during their first academic term at the University of Houston and will remain in the course until the Excel Competency requirement is met.

Exam scores are available through the MIS 3000 Canvas course. Students who do not initially pass the Excel Competency Exam are allowed to retake the exam two more times, for a total of three attempts.

Accommodations for Students with Disabilities

The C. T. Bauer College of Business would like to help students who have disabilities achieve their highest potential. In order to receive academic accommodations, students must register with the Center for Students with Disabilities (CSD) and present approved accommodation documentation in a timely manner. The CSD services are fully confidential.
