Graduate Commencement Ceremony
The University of Houston has postponed Spring 2020 commencement ceremonies due to the global COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic and restrictions on event sizes. The ceremonies will be rescheduled for late summer or early fall when local, state and federal restrictions allow and when it is safe for our University community to come together again.
The University of Houston recognizes that commencement is a joyous time and an incredible accomplishment to be celebrated by our graduates and their families. UH will immediately begin planning a postponed commencement for spring 2020 graduates as soon as health conditions allow.
We will continued to keep our graduates and UH community informed as these plans are developed.

Commencement is the graduation ceremony where students will be individually recognized for their academic achievement. The UH Bauer College of Business has two commencement ceremonies for graduating bachelor’s, masters and doctoral students:
- one at the end of the fall semester
- one at the end of the spring semester
Students graduating in the summer may participate in the spring ceremony prior to their actual graduation, or the fall ceremony following their summer completion.
Summer graduates should not apply for Spring 2020 graduation. Summer graduates should apply for Summer 2020 graduation through Access UH beginning April 3, 2020.
Summer graduates who want their name included in the printed May Commencement Program must apply for Summer 2020 graduation through Access UH by April 10, 2020.
The Commencement ceremony will last approximately two and a half hours.
Whether or not a student participates in the commencement ceremony, actual graduation is contingent upon successful completion of all graduate coursework and other degree requirements by the end of the semester for which the student has filed.
