Alfonso Colombano (BBA ’10, MBA ’16) recently published his third book, titled “Oil and Gas Company Analysis: Petroleum Refining and Marketing,” which focuses on the refining and marketing sector of the oil and gas industry.
A recent Bauer College global energy graduate is making a name for himself as an expert in the oil and gas field.
Alfonso Colombano (BBA ’10, MBA ’16) recently published his third book focused on the energy industry, using the knowledge he’s gained professionally and during his time at Bauer.
The book, titled “Oil and Gas Company Analysis: Petroleum Refining and Marketing,” dives into the refining and marketing sector of the oil and gas industry, taking a closer look at the processes, business cycles and unique qualities of the business.
“This book discusses what petroleum refining is, what are the key processes involved, why oil refining is needed, why this industry matters and how it makes money,” Colombano said. “It also covers the petroleum marketing and trading industry, discusses the key elements and processes in this industry and how marketing and trading of hydrocarbons allow companies to serve customers. Lastly, the book covers eight companies with R&M businesses, their asset details, current earnings and strategies.”
Colombano’s previous books, one published in English and one in Spanish, provided an overview of the oil and gas industry, evaluating over 30 companies in different sectors of the industry.
“I was motivated to write and publish these books because of a strong desire to help others, particularly students, better understand why the oil and gas industry is so critical to our daily lives.”
Colombano has years of experience working in the industry as a financial reporting analyst. His studies in Bauer’s global energy graduate program were also invaluable in helping him write the book, he said.
“I’m very fortunate and grateful to have had the opportunity to study at Bauer. The experience, knowledge and quality of professors at Bauer inspired me from the beginning to learn more about the industry, my major and overall business,” he added. “Having been involved in The Energy Association and other student organizations allowed me to learn from great corporate speakers from companies in the industry.”
In addition to promoting his book series, Colombano plans to continue writing articles on topics that affect the oil and gas industry, with an emphasis on financial analysis.
He was also recently interviewed by the Global Energy Leaders Podcast to discuss his first book and will be featured again to comment on topics concerning the refining and marketing sector.
