Certificate in Accountancy (CAP)

Students are eligible to apply for the Certificate in Accountancy upon successful completion of minimum 10 CAP 5000 level courses with a letter grade of “C” or better.

Certificate requests will be processed after grades for the semester are posted. Certificates are usually mailed 4-6 weeks after the final grades are posted to the student’s record.

Certificates of Concentration in Oil & Gas and Internal Audit

Oil and Gas and Internal Audit courses are not approved by the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy (TSBPA) to fulfill the 30 hours of advanced accounting requirement towards CPA eligibility. However, those courses will count towards the 150 hours of college credit requirement.

In order to receive the Oil & Gas or Internal Audit certificate a student must:

  • Complete three (3) required courses and one (1) colloquium listed specifically for the certificate. Courses cannot be substituted for the required list.
  • Earn a minimum letter grade of “B” for each course, and a letter grade of “S” (satisfactory) for the colloquium.
  • Earn a minimum of a 3.0 cumulative and accounting GPA.
