GEMI encompasses energy-related programming at three levels: Law, Business and Public Policy


Housed within the C. T. Bauer College of Business at the University of Houston, the Global Energy Management Institute (GEMI) serves as a resource to prepare and support the energy workers of today while exploring issues important to the industry’s future.

Located in the energy capital of the world, GEMI is a natural venue for a world-class energy center designed to meet the needs of the energy community.

GEMI offers curriculum at the undergraduate, graduate and executive education, along with professional networking opportunities through forums, seminars and symposia.

Energy and Sustainability Initiatives (ESI)

The purpose of Energy and Sustainability Initiatives (ESI) is to offer an interdisciplinary curriculum and courses for students who want to study issues relating energy and sustainability so they are better prepared for careers and graduate school in these twin fields. In addition ESI will promote speakers and events on and off campus, and provide links to resources for students who want to learn more about the energy industry and the economic, environmental, and public policy issues related to energy and sustainability.

Energy BBA: Undergraduate Global Energy Management (GEM)

The energy industry is a very technical industry mostly comprised of engineers. Our business leaders need to be able to communicate and work in a technical environment.” The GEM Professional Program provides the basis for these fundamentals. This edge will allow you the potential to explore positions within the energy industry which might otherwise be unavailable to you.

Energy Case Studies

Bauer students can find courses available in Exploration and Production, Refining and Petrochemical economics, Energy Trading, Strategy and Value Creation for Energy companies, Energy Project Finance, Energy Problems & Decision Methods, and Energy Project Management. The faculty teaching energy courses in the college have produced case studies in each of these areas, which are available through the Bauer Case Study website.

Energy MBA: Certificate Programs

Graduate Certificate Programs are designed to provide intensive exposure to topic areas in demand by the current business environment. These programs can be taken as part the Bauer MBA program or MS Finance Program.
