The Association for Information Systems (AIS) maintains a database of research article produced in the information systems field. This site was developed and is maintained by Viswanath Venkatesh at the University of Arkansas (see the site here). The standard procedure for comparing productivity among universities is to report and rank the universities by the number of scholarly articles published in the top tier of IS journals.

The Association for Information System states: "AIS encourages members, as well as deans and department chairs, to treat a 'basket' of 6 journals as top journals in our field." (see the full discussion of the top 6 journals here).
