Bauer College Board Establishes Dean Latha Ramchand Scholarship Endowment
Scholarship in Recognition of Outgoing Dean Will Benefit Undergraduate and Graduate Finance Students

The Bauer College Board announced this week a scholarship endowment in honor of outgoing Bauer College Dean Latha Ramchand that will recognize and honor Ramchand’s service to students over her nearly 25-year career on campus.
Bauer College Board chair Paul Peacock (BBA ’81), retired partner for PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP, unveiled plans for the Dean Latha Ramchand Scholarship Endowment at a farewell celebration for Ramchand this week.
“It's been a huge honor to work with Latha,” Peacock said. “We wanted to make a gift that would last long after she leaves campus and embodies the student first campaign. So as chair I reached out to board, and we’ve reached out to others, and we created and developed this scholarship.”
Established by the board, the endowment has been bolstered by contributions from faculty, staff, business partners and friends of Bauer College and will support undergraduate and graduate Bauer students with renewable scholarships based on need and academic merit.
“Since assuming the role of Bauer college dean, Latha has never wavered in her answer to the question, ‘What is the College’s greatest priority?’ Her answer — scholarships for students,” Senior Director of Advancement Bob King said. “She has been, and will always be, a passionate proponent of making a life-changing education accessible and affordable for deserving students.”
Throughout her career at the University of Houston, Ramchand has demonstrated a commitment to student success, championing opportunity for all students, he added.
“Bauer is where awesome happens not just because of faculty and students,” UH Student Regent Andrew Teoh, a Bauer finance and accounting senior said. “Bauer is where awesome happens because we had a leader who put our students first. Who made sure they had access to a world class education. She turned the college into a home.”
Under her leadership, the college focused on initiatives to support student service and faculty research, launching the Bauer in D.C. Fellowship Program, the Working Families Agenda and several degree and certificate programs. The college also developed new initiatives to connect to the community, including startup accelerator RED Labs and the SURE™ Program.
“It's a bittersweet moment in many ways. It's like sending your first child away to college. You are proud, but sad to see them go,” University of Houston System Chancellor and University of Houston President Renu Khator said. “You have helped Bauer College transform. Latha's leaving a legacy not in the college, but in UH.”
