Small businesses are thriving in Houston, and technology startups are leading the way. The C. T. Bauer College of Business at the University of Houston is advancing startup growth in Houston by connecting students with the resources and connections needed to turn an idea into a business with 3 Day Startup (3DS).

Hosted by the college’s Wolff Center for Entrepreneurship, the program will be held from Nov. 21-23. Online applications are open, with a need for students to serve in business, design, coding, advertising and legal roles.

Students from all majors will form teams to spend the weekend to launch technology startup companies and present business plans to investors in a finale of pitches.

Founded in 2008 at the University of Texas, 3DS is an entrepreneurship program in which university students launch tech companies over an intense three-day session. In six years, 3DS has expanded from its Texas roots: More than 90 events on five continents have resulted in 71 companies and $15 million in startup capital.

Hesam Panahi is a Bauer clinical assistant professor for the Department of Decision & Information Sciences and 3 Day Startup organizer.

“3 Day Startup is an amazing opportunity to learn and engage in entrepreneurship by actually doing it,” Panahi said. “We’ve seen students that have gone through 3 Day Startup launch their own ventures, work at or with startups, and generally get more involved with the startup ecosystem. It could be one of the most fulfilling weekends of your college career."
