Bauer Gives Back: Helping the Hungry
Feeding the Needy is Focus of Student's Yearlong Efforts

Supply Chain Management and Marketing major Priscilla Harrington gives back by participating in the Souper Bowl of Caring and the Turkey Trot to feed hungry families during the holiday season.

It’s the holiday season, and the savory smells of turkey, cranberries and gravy fill many Houston homes, but local food banks still need the hands of many generous volunteers to help those in need. That’s where one Bauer College student comes in.
Priscilla Harrington, a Supply Chain Management and Marketing major and Program for Excellence in Selling (PES) student at the C. T. Bauer College of Business at the University of Houston, has been an avid volunteer with many Houston hunger-related events and organizations. Harrington uses her volunteer work to help the Houston community as well as her fellow Bauer College students.
This Thanksgiving, Harrington will be volunteering with a group of Bauer College students for the Turkey Trot the day before Thanksgiving.
“It’s important to give back in my community because there were many times when I needed help or mentoring and others gave their time to me without hesitation,” Harrington said.
On Nov. 10, Harrington gathered a group of Institute for Supply Chain Management (ISM) students to plant trees at a local high school.
Harrington also spends her time on campus helping students complete their volunteer requirements for the Ted Bauer Leadership Program, which she is now a mentor for after she was awarded the Bauer Pride Award and the TBLCP Leadership Award after graduating from the program.
One of the several events Harrington and the TBLCP students volunteered for was the Houston Souper Bowl of Caring, where they sold over 400 bags containing canned goods for the Houston Food Bank.
“Last semester, I helped many students complete their volunteer requirements for the Ted Bauer Leadership Program, going above and beyond the required hours to make sure everyone would meet the requirements to graduate,” Harrington added. “Giving back to others is an emotionally fulfilling event for everyone, whether you are giving your time or receiving time from someone.”
