UH Startups to Present New Tech at Seventh Annual Bayou Startup Showcase
Aug. 6 Digital Event to Highlight Startups from Health Care to Home Security

Students from Bauer College and across the University of Houston are pitching their startup ideas on Aug. 6 to Houston’s tech entrepreneurship community at the seventh annual Bayou Startup Showcase.
The event is a partnership between UH’s RED Labs accelerator program, housed in UH’s Bauer College of Business, and Rice University’s OwlSpark.
Held online this year, Bayou Startup Showcase serves as the last element of a 12-week program for student teams from RED Labs and OwlSpark, who have spent the summer developing their startup concepts in a co-working space.
"This summer was our first all-digital program with a cohort of teams from RED Labs and OwlSpark. Although we love to have our summer program in person, the founders in the program adapted quickly and were enthusiastic to join the Zoom room curriculum sessions and mentoring in the midst of this pandemic,” RED Labs Managing Director Kelly McCormick said. “Although we didn't have the same in-person support system, founders got to know each other via Zoom and still worked throughout the summer to help each other digitally validate ideas, complete (virtual) customer interviews, craft business models, and create pitches."
RED Labs founders are presenting business ideas that implement technology solutions across several segments, from health care to home security.
