UH SBDC Executive Director Steve Lawrence has been elected to the National Association of Small Business Development Center Board of Directors.

The University of Houston Texas Gulf Coast Small Business Development Center (SBDC) Network is pleased to announce that Steve Lawrence, DrPH, MBA, State Director of UH Texas Gulf Coast SBDC Network, has been elected to the national Association of Small Business Development Center (ASBDC) Board of Directors.

Lawrence was elected to the board in September 2018 during the 38th Annual America’s SBDC Conference in Washington, D.C. As a board member, Lawrence will serve a two-year term through 2020 with nine other SBDC state directors. The ten-member team will represent the program at a national level, championing small business and promoting economic development.

“It’s an honor to serve on the board for the ASBDC,” said Lawrence. “I look forward to working with my fellow board members to advocate and strengthen the impact of America’s SBDCs nationwide.”

The ASBDC represents America’s nationwide network of nearly 1,000 SBDCs – the most comprehensive small business assistance network in the United States and its territories offering no-cost business consulting and low-cost training. The mission of the network is to help prospective entrepreneurs realize the dream of business ownership, and to assist existing businesses to remain competitive and grow.

Lawrence joined the UH Bauer College SBDC Network as the executive director in September 2017. In his role, he is responsible for leading a regional program of 15 SBDCs that annually provides education and management consulting to clients throughout Southeast Texas.

The UH Texas Gulf Coast SBDC Network offers no-cost, confidential, one-on-one business advising, and affordable workshops and trainings that share the latest information on topics ranging from sales and marketing, finance, management, social media and more.

The University of Houston Texas Gulf Coast SBDC Network is a business advising and training center serving 32 counties in Southeast Texas. The SBDC program is funded in part through a cooperative agreement with the U. S. Small Business Administration.
