The C. T. Bauer College of Business was recently granted a $25,000 endowed scholarship by the Houston Area Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE).

The Houston Area ACFE Robert Barr Scholarship was named in honor of long time educator and Houston Area ACFE member Robert “Bob” Barr, a lecturer in Bauer College’s Department of Accountancy & Taxation, who has also served as faculty advisor for the student chapter of the ACFE.

Barr has over 28 years’ experience in public accounting and over 18 years of litigation services experience to attorneys, insurance companies and governmental agencies. He has served on numerous litigation projects including real estate leasing, financing, fraudulent financial reporting in real estate, and more. He currently teaches a specialized graduate accounting course in fraud examination that he developed.

“ACFE’s establishment of this scholarship endowment shows the commitment of the Houston Chapter members in assisting the future generation of fraud examiners,” said Ta-Lung Lin said, a development officer for Bauer College. “Students interested in the field are encouraged to reach out to ACFE members and apply for the scholarship.”

The first students to receive the scholarship will receive awards in July 2019. For more information, visit bauer.uh.edu/scholarships.
