Prof. Pirrong is Energy Expert For Wall Street Journal
Wall Street Journal Taps Noted Energy and Commodities Scholar Pirrong for new Energy Expert Series

Bauer Professor Craig Pirrong, the director of energy markets for the college’s Global Energy Management Institute, will be featured in The Wall Street Journal’s Energy Experts series.
When The Wall Street Journal needed to assemble an exclusive group of industry and thought leaders to engage in in-depth online discussions of energy issues, they had to look no further than the C. T. Bauer College of Business at the University of Houston.
Craig Pirrong, a professor in the Department of Finance and director of energy markets for the college’s Global Energy Management Institute, is part of the panel that makes up WSJ’s Energy Experts. The Experts were formed to discuss topics raised in the recent ECO:nomics Report, which focuses on innovations in renewable energy.
According to the WSJ, The Experts will participate in the online discussion in a number of ways, including video chat and short online posts in a stream on their website, meant to serve as an ongoing online conversation. Recently, Pirrong shared his thoughts in the discussion on what growing U.S. oil production means for energy markets and geopolitics.
Pirrong’s fellow Experts for WSJ include Kate Gordon, vice president and director of the Energy & Climate Program at Next Generation, WSJ environment editor Jeffrey Ball, Cato Institute Senior Fellow Jerry Taylor, and former Shell Oil president and Citizens for Affordable Energy founder and head John Hofmeister, among others.
Pirrong’s research focuses on the economics of commodity markets, power markets, and the relation between market fundamentals and commodity price dynamics. He has published extensively on the economics of financial exchanges and consults widely. He also maintains a blog, The Streetwise Professor.
