Students from the Wolff Center for Entrepreneurship took over the UC North Patio for three days during the annual Wolffest competition April 17-19.

Students from the Cyvia and Melvyn Wolff Center for Entrepreneurship at the University of Houston C. T. Bauer College of Business found out that if your business plan can’t stand the heat, you better get out of the kitchen.

Wolffest, the program’s annual business plan competition, returned to campus on April 17-19 on the north lawn of the University Center. A contest of creativity, business aptitude and teamwork, entrepreneurship student teams launched pop-up restaurant stands and competed to see who could earn the most revenue and execute their plans best.

“It’s great to see the students applying what they learned in class and implement those skills into operating a business,” said Ken Jones, WCE associate director. “We want to kick-off this event to celebrate the spirit of entrepreneurship and to not only highlight the Wolff Center, but other entrepreneurial endeavors across campus.”

This year’s event expanded on the successes of what was previously known as BurgerFest with a celebration of entrepreneurship that is longer — three days rather than two — and included additional activities like a dunking booth, a car smash and a bungee relay.

“Wolffest gives entrepreneurship majors a chance to take all of the concepts we’ve learned at Bauer and apply them in a real-life business operation,” said entrepreneurship major Randy Hannemann, who participated in this year’s competition. “Holding events like these are definitely what make Bauer‘s entrepreneurship program number one in the nation.”
