An additional advantage to this MS program is its provision for certification preparation. There are three primary professional MIS certifications:

  1. Project Management Professional (PMP)

The Project Management Institute offers the PMP certification exam and requires 4,500 hours of PM experience and 35 hours of project management education. See www.pmi.org.

  2. Certified Business Analyst Professional (CBAP)
The International Institute of Business Analysis offers the CBAP certification which require passing the exam and have 7,500 hours of business analyst work experience and 21 hours of professional development. See www.iiba.org.

  3. Certified Information System Auditor (CISA)
The Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ISACA) offers the CISA (Certified Information Systems Auditor) program requires five years IS audit experience. A masters degree in IT substitutes for one years experience. See www.isaca.org.

The MS in MIS program can be expected to be successful by attracting students from the two talent pools listed above with the ultimate student goal of obtaining one of the three certifications above. Some of the targeted students are NOT candidates for one the three certifications because of the nature of job.
