If you ask Bauer College alumna Dr. Jennifer Le (BS ‘09, MBA ‘11) to tell you about her family, chances are you’ll hear about both the human and animal members. A lifelong animal lover, Le opened A Couple of Vets in Spring, TX, last year with a vision to create a comfortable atmosphere for pets and their owners.

“A lot of corporate veterinary practices are popping up all over the place, and we love to create a family-oriented atmosphere, giving that special touch and personalized care to every patient and client so we can develop the best plan for you and your pet,” she said.

Le runs the clinic with her husband, Dr. Zachary Reynolds, also a veterinarian, making A Couple of Vets a true family affair.

“This is a full-service animal hospital, where we see dogs and cats mainly,” Le said. “We focus on wellness care and preventative things like vaccines and heartworm, flea and tick prevention, but we also see emergency cases and have a full in-house lab here, so we can check liver, kidney and other organ functions and do x-rays and ultrasounds.”

A Houston native, Le attended high school at Klein Forest and knew she wanted to focus on science in college, graduating from the University of Houston with a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry and double minors in chemistry and psychology in 2005. Her plan was then to attend veterinary school, but she made the decision to first pursue a business degree to prepare for eventually opening her own practice.

“I thought the next best step would be to get my MBA, which would provide the basics of business and accounting, all the things I needed to run my own business,” Le said. “Bauer is one of the best business schools in the nation, and it was a great fit for me.”

She added: “You can do anything with an MBA. There were people in the program who were engineers, some in business who wanted to get certificates in finance or accounting…I wanted to be a veterinarian. I met so many people from so many different backgrounds.”

She graduated in 2011 with an MBA and Certificate in Entrepreneurship, and later that year, she was accepted into Texas A&M’s College of Veterinary Medicine, where she met Reynolds.

“A Couple of Vets is our first business venture, and our long-term goal is to open another facility with more pain management and rehab,” Le said. “We want to have everything convenient for our clients and pets.”

Le’s passion for animals and their well-being started early, after an experience with a family cat as a child.

“I grew up with animals my whole life,” she said. “We had a cat who was diagnosed with lymphoma, and he underwent chemo and radiation treatment. The last day before we said goodbye to him, we saw him in the ICU with all the other sick animals, and that really was the deciding factor for me to become a veterinarian.”

Le dedicates A Couple of Vets to her late father, Minh Le, who instilled in her a love of animals, a spirit of entrepreneurship and a mindset of hard work and dedication.

“My dad, especially, encouraged me to become a veterinarian because just like me, he didn’t like seeing dogs and cats sick,” she said. “He passed away from lung cancer in 2016, and before he died, he told me that I fulfilled his dream, and he was very proud of me.”
