New Faculty Search Procedure
The new faculty search process is initiated by obtaining the Dean’s approval on a completed Request
to Recruit or, when appropriate, Request to Continue Search form. This request is then forwarded to the Provost’s Office, along with the required documents, as stated in the policy for hiring non-tenure or tenure track faculty. All forms and instructions are available on the web at:
http://www.uh.edu/provost/documents_list.html.
The Dean and Department Chair decide which position is needed. The department will generate a request to recruit and then send to Deans' Office Program Coordinator. Once all certifying in-house signatures are approved, Program Coordinator then forward documents to Provost's Office. After approval, then the department can start advertising and interviewing process.
Once approval is received from the Provost, the departments may begin their search. The search committee must follow the Affirmative Action/Equal Employment Opportunity rules and regulations. All ads and announcements must be prior approved by the AAO before being submitted for publication.
Upon selection a top candidate the Dean's office will make request to offer, which is routed through Program Coordinator. Both Program Coordinator and Associate Dean will assemble offer letter, faculty folder and other necessary documents send to Provost Office.
The ePAR, directory set up, RICS, phone etc will be prepared by Assistant Director in addition to 499 PAR will all be completed and set up $0 compensation summer for new faculty in order to begin receiving fees before September 1st deadline.
The Dean’s office will provide a budget to each department. This funding will support all related search costs such as round trip airfare, lodging, and interview meetings/dinners. Additional costs will need to be supported by departmental funds. Meals are reimbursable up to $100 per meal per person (includes tip) per UH policy. If you believe the cost for a meal will be more than the state allowable amount, pre-approval must be obtained from the Provost. Alcohol is not reimbursable if consumed during normal working hours. Non-employee spouses may be invited to our campus but only with the prior approval of the Dean when the benefit is clearly identified.
Hotel reservations are made directly with the UH Hilton. The Hilton will bill the college to be paid via SC Voucher. Please ensure that the SCV is processed in a timely manner. For the convenience of the faculty candidate, the hiring department usually arranges airfare by purchasing tickets online with a T-Card. A Travel Request must be initiated and be approved by the Associate Dean. The faculty candidate may make his/her own travel arrangements. In this case, the candidate must complete a W9 form and will be reimbursed on a Travel Voucher (which requires proper receipts).

Visiting Faculty Appointments

This stipend is assigned to the office; it is not a part of the base salary of the person holding the office, and it will be relinquished when the individual leaves the office. For persons appointed from the outside, the initial negotiation should include all aspects of compensation.
All administrative stipends will be paid from approved fees.
Payment for the administrative stipend will be disbursed during the summer months. With prior approval from the Provost it can be paid over 9 months instead at 0 FTE.
ORP will be taken out from Admin. Stipend
Clinical Faculty Policy
The C. T. Bauer College of Business has historically relied quite heavily on full-time non-tenure track faculty to teach a variety of courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The most common designator for such faculty is Visiting Assistant Professor. Currently, regardless of length of service, each visiting faculty member is required to be appointed on an annual contract basis. It would be helpful for retention purposes to have the ability to appoint visiting faculty on a multiyear contract. As such, this policy sets forth the designator of Clinical Faculty, a university-approved faculty category, to enable these individuals to be put on multiyear contracts. Clinical Faculty can be given up to a three-year appointment if and only if they have successfully (according to the annual review process) completed three consecutive annual appointment terms.
Definition
Members of the Clinical Faculty of the C. T. Bauer College of Business hold non-tenure track appointments. Clinical Faculty members may be assigned the rank of Clinical Instructor of Business or Clinical Assistant Professor of Business. The ranks established for the Clinical Faculty and appointments thereto are outside the college and university tenure systems.
Qualifications
Individuals appointed to Clinical Assistant Professor in the C. T. Bauer College of Business will hold, at minimum, a Ph.D. degree from an AACSB-accredited business school or a doctoral degree from another relevant discipline, or the equivalent. Individuals appointed to Clinical Instructor will hold, at minimum, an appropriate masters degree. Individuals at each clinical rank within the college must have demonstrated experience and expertise congruent with the needs of the C. T. Bauer College of Business.
Appointment Process
Appointment as a member of the Clinical Faculty, including the specific offer and all related conditions, will be the primary responsibility of the Dean of the C. T. Bauer College of Business. Clinical Faculty appointments must be reviewed and approved by the Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs. Appointment and reappointment letters will stipulate specific roles and responsibilities, which will serve as the basis for annual performance reviews.
Duration
Clinical Faculty appointments are, by definition, full-time non-tenure track and may not be converted into tenure track positions. Clinical Faculty will not be considered for tenure; therefore, no instructional time in any position as a member of the Clinical Faculty will be counted toward tenure.
Appointments will be made for a specified duration (e.g., 9, 10, or 12 months) based on the needs of the college, but may be renewed, subject to positive annual reviews and in line with college needs. Appointment letters may, with the approval of the Dean of the C. T. Bauer College of Business and the Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs, include a multiple-year renewal (e.g., two or three years) after the successful completion of a probationary period, including at least two successful annual reviews. The C. T. Bauer College of Business intends to work with the University of Houston Office of the Provost to develop an appointment system that will permit the Bauer College to offer multiyear appointments to members of the Clinical Faculty in appropriate circumstances.
(per Academic Affairs the letter must be renewed annually for rolling 2-3 year appointments).
The Role of Clinical Faculty
Specific roles and responsibilities of Clinical Faculty in the C. T. Bauer College of Business will be based on the needs of the college. The specific roles and responsibilities for a particular faculty member will be outlined in the position description, as well as stipulated in the formal appointment letter(s). Responsibilities may include classroom teaching, individual one-on-one instruction, curricular development, direction of adjunct professors, or any combinations thereof. In view of these diverse roles and responsibilities, appointments to the Clinical Faculty do not carry the same institutional expectations for scholarly productivity as tenure track faculty. However, in all other respects, Clinical Faculty will be expected to participate fully in the work and life of the C. T. Bauer College of Business.
Privileges
Clinical Faculty of the C. T. Bauer College of Business will have the same general privileges as other faculty, including library, computer, athletic, and parking privileges. Clinical Faculty will not have voting privileges at faculty meetings. Clinical Faculty will be eligible to compete for those teaching awards within the college and university for which their appointments qualify them. Clinical Faculty will be governed by the University of Houston Faculty Handbook, with the exception of policies and procedures developed for tenure track faculty.
Evaluation
Clinical Faculty in the C. T. Bauer College of Business will have annual reviews conducted by the appropriate department chair or supervisor. Evaluative criteria will vary based on the specific expectations of the faculty member’s position.
Compensation
Clinical Faculty of the C. T. Bauer College of Business who will be reappointed for the next academic year will be considered for salary increases in accordance with the university’s guidelines for persons classified as faculty.
