Past Ph.D. Graduates

Our Ph.D. graduates are impacting MIS worldwide.  Most of our graduates have chosen to remain in the world of academia and are continuing to produce research that impacts the MIS discipline.  The following list shows our graduates from the MIS Ph.D. program and where they are now.

Anol Bhattacherjee (Summer 1996)

Anol Bhattacherjee is an Associate Professor of information systems and coordinator of the IS Ph.D. program at the University of South Florida. Before joining USF, he served on the faculty of University of Colorado, Denver and Arizona State University. His research interests include behavioral issues in electronic commerce, information technology (IT) adoption and use, and IT-enabled organizational transformation. His research has been published in MIS Quarterly, Information Systems Research, Decision Sciences, Journal of MIS, IEEE Transactions on Systems, Man, and Cybernetics, Decision Support Systems, Data Base, and Information & Management, among other academic journals.

Brent Bowman is currently a professor at University of Nevada, Reno

Carol Saunders (Fall 1979)

Carol Saunders is Professor of MIS at the University of Central Florida in Orlando, FL. She served as General Conference Chair of ICIS’99 and Telecommuting ’96, and is an associate editor of MIS Quarterly, Decision Sciences Journal, Information Systems Research and Information Resources Management Journal. Her current research interests include electronic commerce, the impact of information systems on power and communication, virtual teams, and interorganizational linkages. Her research is published in Information Systems Research, Journal of MIS, Communications of the ACM, Academy of Management Journal, Academy of Management Review, and Organization Science. Charles Davis ( Fall 1986)

Charles Davis is a Professor of Management Information Systems at the University of St. Thomas. Before joining St. Thomas, Dr. Davis taught classes at the University of Houston and Capella University in Minneapolis, MN and was an associate professor at the University of Houston - Downtown. His research interests include Telecommunica­tions Technology & Management, Informa­tion Systems Controls & Auditing, Strategic Infor­mation Technologies, and Information Resource Management Dr. Davis is author, or co-author, of numerous articles dealing with the management of information technologies that have appeared in such publications as the MIS Quarterly and the Association for Computing Machinery's Database.

Charlene Dykman (Spring 1986)

Charlene Dykman is an Associate Professor of Management Information Systems at the University of St. Thomas, specializing in the organizational impact of modern information technologies on business enterprise. Professor Dykman has published widely and spoken at numerous professional meetings, with over eighty articles, proceedings, speeches, and similar contributions, serving for many years as Executive Editor and Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Systems Management. Dr. Dykman is an often consulted international authority on the management of complex information systems in large organizations and has locally served as president of the Houston Chapter of the Association for Systems Management. She has received numerous awards, including the Outstanding Faculty Award at Houston Baptist University, the "Woman of Excellence Award" from the Federation of Houston Professional Women and the River Oaks Business Women's Exchange Club. Dr. Dykman has also been listed in numerous Who's Who listings, including Who's Who in the World, Who's Who in the Computing Industry, Who's Who of American Women, and Notable Women of Texas.

David Montesinos-Delgado (Fall 1992)

David VanOver (Fall 1988)

David VanOver is currently a professor at Sam Houston State University

Don Hardaway (Spring 1988)

Don Hardaway is currently a professor at Saint Louis University

Hao Lou (Summer 1993)

Mary Lacity (Fall 1992)

Mary Lacity is an Associate Professor of Information Systems at the University of Missouri-St. Louis and a Research Affiliate at Templeton College, Oxford University. Her research interests focus on IT management practices in the areas of sourcing, IT privatization, benchmarking, IT metrics, and project management. She has conducted case studies in over 75 organizations and has surveyed both US and European IT managers on their management practices. She has given executive seminars worldwide and has served as an expert witness for the US Congress. She was the recipient of the 2000 World Outsourcing Achievement Award sponsored by PricewaterhouseCoopers and Michael Corbett and Associates. She has written five books: Netsourcing Business Applications (forthcoming Prentice Hall, 2002; co-authors Thomas Kern and Leslie Willcocks); Global IT Outsourcing: Search for Business Advantage (Wiley, 2000; co-author Leslie Willcocks); Strategic Sourcing of Information Systems (Wiley, 1997;co-author Leslie Willcocks); Beyond the Information Systems Outsourcing Bandwagon: The Insourcing Response (Wiley, 1995; co-author Rudy Hirschheim) and Information Systems Outsourcing: Myths, Metaphors, and Realities (Wiley, 1993; co-author Rudy Hirschheim). Her articles have appeared in the Harvard Business Review, Sloan Management Review, MIS Quarterly and many other academic and practitioner outlets. She is US Editor of the Journal of Information Technology. She has previously worked as a consultant for Technology Partners and as a systems analyst for Exxon Company, USA. Mary Lacity

Minnie Yi-Miin Yen (Spring 1989)

Minnie Yi Miin-Yen is currently an an associate professor of MIS at University of Alaska Anchorage. She has been with the Department of Computer Information and Office Systems Department, College of Business and Public Policy, UAA for 12 years since she graduated. During this period, Dr. Miin-Yen received a promotion and tenure to associate professor and served as a department chair from 1998-2000. Minnie Yi-Miin Yen

Narayan Umanath (Spring 1987)

Narayan Umanath is currently a professor at the University of Cincinnati

Richard Will (Spring 1988)

Richard Will is currently a professor at the University of South Florida

Russell Haines (Fall 2001)

Russell Haines is currently an associate professor at the University of Tulsa, where he is teaching database, telecommunications, network administration, and Internet development. The focus of the research of Dr. Haines is upon small group interaction and technology.Russell Haines

Sampath Ramanujan (Summer 1995)

Sampath Ramanujan is currently a professor at Central Missouri State University

Sree Nilakanta (Fall 1985)

Sree Nilakanta is currently an associate professor in the department of logistics, operations, and management information systems at the College of Business at Iowa State University.Sree Nilakanta

Tim Goles (Fall 2001)

Tim Goles is currently an Assistant Professor at the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA). While as a recent graduate, he has not had time to produce much in the way of concrete results yet; UTSA is in transition from a teaching school to a research institution. This includes implementing a new doctoral program effective Fall 2002. Consequently, the IS department is in an expansion mode, so faculty search and recruitment activities are ongoing as well. The net result of all this change is a unique opportunity that will allow Dr. Goles to help shape and transform not only the IS program, but the entire College of Business. Tim Goles

Van Tran is currently a professor at the University of Houston - Clear Lake
