Telecommuting

Flexible Workplace Initiative

Beginning in 2008, the University rolled out a flexible workplace plan that includes the option of some employees working from home offices when appropriate and clearly justified.  BCB currently participates in this initiative, with careful implementation, oversight and review.  For each employee that is offered a partial telecommuting schedule, the following process must be followed in advance:

Department Director meets with Director of Business Operations to discuss.

A responsible, well monitored telecommuting plan is agreed upon for appropriate employees.

A trial period begins for participating employee(s)

At the six month point, a review is conducted to assure that customer service, productivity and accessibility has been acceptible.

Telecommuting schedule is either continued or revoked.  If continued, re-assessment occurs at regular intervals.

The employee’s personal residence may not be considered the employee’s regular or assigned temporary place of employment without prior written authorization from the employee’s division vice president. The division vice president can discontinue the employee’s participation in the flexible workplace initiative at any time.

Please note that not all positions are conducive to a telecommuting schedule.  For example, an employee whose core responsibility is coverage of a reception area cannot have a telecommuting option.  Please see MAPP 02.04.10 for full policy.
