LETTER FROM THE DIRECTOR

The Real Estate Program Newsletter Debuts

Keith Richards

I am pleased to announce the launch of our principal communication piece, the Real Estate Program newsletter. The newsletter will raise awareness, engagement, and connectivity about our program, and the faculty, students, and partnerships that make UH Bauer Real Estate, the certificate program of choice among students and professionals.

You can expect to find within the newsletter, feature highlights, student and alumni spotlights, news, and updates that support of our program goals and the University's student success mission and core values. We would like to also showcase the successes of our alumni and Board Members, so please send us project announcements, transaction announcements, or other newsworthy updates. It is our aim to be representative of the stories from the real estate community, so your feedback on what should appear in the newsletter is welcomed.

I hope you enjoy reading the newsletter as it develops over time and appreciate the information, stories, and successes of our community and the program's vision moving forward.

Best regards,

Keith Richards
Executive Director
Bauer Real Estate Program

STUDENT SPOTLIGHT

Phillip Hablinski – First Year MBA Graduate Student

Phillip Hablinski

Where did you grow up and what high school did you graduate from? I grew up in West University here in Houston and graduated from Lamar High School which is within HISD.

Are you currently employed or do you have an internship? I am currently a graduate assistant for the Real Estate Program and am active on the internship hunt for this summer which will hopefully parlay into a full-time offer.

How do you handle going to school and being employed at the same time? It is certainly a balancing act. I feel that everyone is busy, whether that be with school or their jobs. Trying to juggle both has been an adventure, but like everything in life, you get acclimated to things, and eventually you get used to it.

Why do you choose to attend UH? I am a fifth generation Houstonian, and my whole family lives here. I just finished my time in the Army this past year and being away for 4 years really helped me realize that being close to family was a priority for me. I also want to work in Houston after school, so it made sense to stay local and generate connections that would benefit me going forward.

What do you like the best about UH? It is a big school, but I don't feel like a number here. Bauer takes very good care of their students, and I feel like they always have the student's best interests at heart.

Do you participate in any extracurricular activities for UH? My class has signed up for intramural dodgeball, which will be fun to release some steam outside the classroom and bond in an outside setting. I have also been to a couple of football games with my classmates which has been really fun (and loud).

What is your expected graduation date and what degree will you be receiving? I will graduate in May of 2020 with a Master's in Business Administration while also attaining my Real Estate Certificate.

How did you decide on what to major in? Developmental Real estate has always been attractive to me because I feel like there is a real psychological benefit to creating a tangible asset. I want to feel like I have created something that has bettered the world.

What are your plans after graduation? I would love to work in Houston in some sort of real estate capacity. However, God sometimes has different plans for us. With that in mind, I am happy that I am pursuing my MBA because I feel like it serves as a great business foundation that can set me up very well for anything that life wants to throw at me.

What are your hobbies? I like staying active, whether that be running, playing golf, or playing pick-up sports with my friends.
