Robert Barr CPA, CFE, CFF
Bob Barr is a Senior Manager in the Audit and Litigation Consulting Practices of Harper & Pearson Company, P.C. in Houston, Texas. In addition to auditing, his practice is concentrated in providing support services to attorneys in commercial litigation, including expert testimony on a broad spectrum of accounting, fraud and damage issues. Mr. Barr has over twenty-eight years' experience in public accounting, including over eighteen years of litigation services experience to attorneys, insurance companies and governmental agencies. He also has over five years' experience in industry management and accounting positions.
Mr. Barr has provided services in a wide variety of litigation projects including real estate leasing and financing, fraudulent financial reporting in real estate, lender liability, construction claims, manufacturing, securities trading, distribution and retailing, statutory accounting for insurance companies, accounting for insurance companies in receivership, antitrust, merger and acquisition purchase price disputes, accounting and legal malpractice and various damages issues in breach of contract disputes. He has also investigated numerous cases of employee theft and fraud, including cases of financial statement fraud.
Mr. Barr is a Certified Public Accountant in the State of Texas and is also a Certified Fraud Examiner and is certified in Financial Forensics by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He is a member of the Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants, where he has held various leadership positions. He was the founding Chair of the TSCPA's Litigation Services Member Section. He is a member of the Houston Chapter of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners, and is a member of the Board of Directors of that organization.
Mr. Barr holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Accounting from the University of Houston. He has also spent over thirty years teaching at the university level on the adjunct faculties of the University of Houston, Rice University - Jones Graduate School of Administration and the University of Houston at Clear Lake. He is currently teaching specialized graduate accounting courses in fraud examination at the University of Houston, a course he developed. Mr. Barr has also had several articles published covering topics such as employee fraud, outsourcing of the internal audit function and providing litigation services and is a frequent speaker on these topics.
Mr. Barr has been involved in youth programs for many years, including church youth programs and Boy Scouts. Mr. Barr has also been involved in foreign student exchange for several years, hosting young men from Switzerland, Germany, Norway, Denmark and Italy through AFS Intercultural Programs. He has also been involved in the leadership of the Roadrunner District for the Texas Gulf Coast Area Team of AFS.
