Hybrid Courses

“Hybrid courses at the University of Houston combine traditional classroom instruction with a significant amount (over 50%) of instruction delivered through educational technology.  Hybrid courses meet approximately half of the time in a traditional face-to-face classroom environment, with the remainder of the course presentation, interaction, activities, and exercises delivered through various electronic means (online, WebCT, and / or video formats).  Although seat time requirements are less than the traditional class, students may expect to spend at least as much time engaged in course activities as in a traditional class.”

Combining the best features of online and in-class learning, Hybrid instruction is fast becoming the new approach to course delivery. Our own campus has embraced this style of learning with an increasing number of hybrid classes being offered each semester.

But what exactly is hybrid instruction? Is this the right format for you? What does the faculty have to say about their "hybrid" experience? How do the students react to this format? Some answers were presented at the a seminar sponsored by ETUO and presented by UH Faculty.
