2012 BSBI Dates: July 31 - August 2
Application Deadline: May 15
(Now Closed for 2012)
What is the Bauer Summer Business Institute?
The Bauer Summer Business Institute (BSBI) is a three-day event designed for high school juniors and seniors to develop leadership skills, set goals for their future (both personally and in business), discover their future career in business, and experience the Houston business community through experiential learning and site tours!
You must be a high school student graduating between May 2013 and May 2014 (sophomores and juniors for the 2011-2012 school year). An application is required (see below). Space is limited: Twenty-five students will be selected for the Institute through a competitive selection process. The Institute is limited to 25 students, so take time to fill out your application carefully!
When is the Institute?
Dates for the 2012 BSBI will be announced on this webpage in February 2012. You must be able to attend all three days of the Institute to be eligible for selection.
Where is the Institute?
The Bauer Summer Business Institute will be held at the UH C.T. Bauer College of Business, 10 minutes from downtown Houston on the UH-Main campus, as well as multiple locations throughout the Houston area.
How much does it cost?
There is no fee required to apply for the Institute. If selected, the cost is only $100, which includes daily breakfast and lunch, as well as bus transportation for all off-campus activities. This small fee only covers about 1/4 of what it actually costs to put on the Institute, so it's a great value!
NOTE: Scholarships are available for selected students who are on a high school free-lunch or reduced-cost lunch program.
Is housing available? Can I stay on campus during the Institute?
Currently, all institute attendees commute daily from their homes. Students living outside of the Houston area are welcome to apply if they can supply their own off-campus housing (family, etc.).
How do I get to and from the Institute daily?
If selected, Institute attendees must provide their own transportation to and from UH daily. During Institute days, bus transportation will be provided for all Institute activities.
When and how do I apply?
Online applications will be accepted through from March 15, 2012 to May 15, 2012.
What does the application require?
We ask students to provide basic contact information, copies of test scores (SAT, ACT or PSAT), a resume'/list of activities, and answers to four short answer questions. Transcripts are optional in most cases. Letters of recommendation are not required.
NOTE: If you are selected as a possible Institute attendee, you will be asked to provide verification of all your application information, as well as to submit consent/permission forms and waivers.
Who do I contact if I have questions about the BSBI or my application?
Leslie Killian, M.Ed., Assistant Director for Outreach at UH Bauer College: lesliekillian@uh.edu or 713-743-4901
