How to Become a Pre-Business Major
(Information for Current UH Students - Non-business)

FAQ: What does “Pre-business” Mean?

Any current UH student who:

  1. Wants to be a business major,
  2. Meets ALL Pre-Business application requirements (see below), and
  3. Applies via online form (see below)

will be approved to become a Pre-Business major and member of the UH Bauer College. After this initial step, they then declare a specific business major (Accounting, Entrepreneurship, Finance, Management, Marketing, Management Information Systems, or Supply Chain Management) before or during their junior year. Declaring a specific major area in business is called “filing a degree plan” and has specific UH GPA and course completion requirements. Attend a BBA Basics Info Session to find out more!

 

How to Officially Become Pre-business

 

Step 1: Determine Your Eligibility
Pre-Business Application Requirements

In order to become Pre-Business, you must complete ALL of the following steps and meet ALL of the following requirements BEFORE applying:

  • Update your myUH student record with any new transfer work, if applicable. Your academic records must be accurate for us to review your application.  If you have done any transfer work after your initial enrollment at UH, send new or updated transcripts to UH and wait for an official transfer evaluation BEFORE you submit your application.
  • Be in good academic standing at UH (not on probation or suspension), and be enrolled at UH.
  • Meet our minimum credit hour and GPA Requirements:

Applicants must complete a minimum of 15 credit hours of college-level work (with grades) and have a 2.75 GPA on their last 60 credit hours of all college-level work attempted (or less if they have attempted between 15 and 59 credit hours). If the 60th semester hour occurs in the middle of a given semester, all grades for that semester are used to determine GPA.

NOTE: The calculation of transfer GPA includes all transfer work, including courses that did not transfer because of a low grade. In addition, grades of “I” (Incomplete) are calculated as grades of “F”.

  • Have a working, valid UH Email Account. Applications with non-working UH e-mails will not be processed.

 

Step 2: Submit Application

Once you have met ALL requirements and completed ALL necessary steps you can submit your online application to become Pre-business.

By clicking submit, you acknowledge that your application will be processed with the information currently available in your UH academic records within 5-10 business days.

The Pre-Business Application Period for Fall 2009 has ended.

Please apply at the next available opportunity (Spring 2010).

 

Step 3: Await Approval or Disapproval Via E-mail

You will be notified within 5-10 business days via your UH e-mail of your approval or disapproval.
