SAS for Design and Anlysis of Experiments
The ADX Menu System

NOTE: To start ADX, select

ADX divides the tasks and subtasks of experimental design and analysis among several windows. On each window the user makes choices pertaining to some aspect of the task at hand. Choices on one window may bring up other windows on which additional choices may be made. Choices are made by placing the cursor on specific locations in the window and pressing the <Enter> key (or clicking the mouse).

Choices are made using menu bars, pushbuttons, check boxes, and selection lists. The next few sections will illustrate these means of selection.

Making Selections: Alternatives

On the first ADX window, move the cursor to the menu bar, the pushbutton, or the selection list to choose what you want to do.

Making Selections: Prompting windows

When you first use ADX, a prompting window will overlay the right side of the ADX window. Choose what you want to do from a selection list by moving the cursor to the appropriate row and pressing <Enter>.

Making Selections: Text entry and Pushbuttons

When you choose to "Add a new design" on the primary window, a new window will appear, also with a prompting window overlaid. Type a design name, move the cursor to the [OK] pushbutton and press <Enter>.

Making Selections: Prompting and no prompting modes

Prompting windows prompt you for design and analysis information. Most features of ADX are accessible using the prompting mode. Other features are accessible using the no-prompting mode. For those features or if you prefer the no-prompting mode, you can turn off prompting by pressing the [Noprompt] button.

You can switch back and forth between the two modes, making selections and providing information in each.

Making Selections: Menu bar

In the no-prompting mode, menu bars are available on some windows. For example, choosing the File selection on the menu bar displays a pop-up window with additional choices. Make a selection by moving the cursor to the desired menu item and pressing <Enter>. For example, choose to create a new design by selecting the New design menu item or exit ADX by selecting the End item.

Making Selections: Selection list

With selection lists, you move the cursor to the desired row of the list and select the entry by pressing <Enter>. For instance you would choose to work with the existing design "FF1" by selecting that row.

Making Selections: Text entry and Pushbuttons

If the "New design" selection is chosen on the primary window, a new window will appear. On this window you enter text into fields and press pushbuttons to bring up other windows.

Making Selections: Entering text

To enter character or numeric text, move the cursor to the appropriate field and type the text. It is not necessary to press <Enter> after entering text in each field. For instance, you might enter "YARN" as the design name and "Yarn elongation study" as the description.

Making Selections: Pushbuttons

Pressing a pushbutton often displays another window pertaining to a subtask. For instance, pressing the [Factors:] button will display a window on which you can specify experimental factors. The field to the right of these pushbuttons displays some of the information gathered on the subtask window, such as the list of factors.

| [Model:] -REQUIRED- |

Making Selections: Other pushbuttons

On some windows, instead of a menu bar across the top, a row of pushbuttons is displayed across the bottom. These are generally used when the actions are few in number and not conceptually grouped. To use them, move the cursor to the appropriate one and press <Enter>.
