The Power of Vetworking – Globally!

China Study Abroad trip proves the power of networking – globally!

Frank Kelley, Director of Undergraduate Business Programs, just returned from a China Study Abroad trip sponsored by the University of Houston Asian American Studies under the direction of Dr. Yali Zou. The tour included 19 students, 16 of whom were undergraduate students, primarily in accounting and finance majors. The group went to Beijing, Xian and Shanghai--staying at the Central University for Nationalities in Beijing where the students had month-long classes.

In Shanghai they made a corporate site visit to KPMG, arranged by one of Bauer College’s recent graduates working there, Paul Watson. Paul was a finance major who obtained this job through contacts made during last year’s site visit to KPMG in New Delhi.

UH alumnus, Paul Watson is in the center row wearing a tie. Dr. Yali Zou is in the pink blouse. Frank Kelley, Director of Undergraduate Programs stands behind Paul.

Energy is a big topic in China and the group was honored to visit PetroChina in Beijing where they heard a presentation by the General Director of the Foreign Affairs Office, Mr. Mao Qiping. The PetroChina connection was made possible through a UH-Global Energy Management track student, Shu Xiong, whose father, Jaiwei Xiong works for CNPC in Houston. In the photo above, Dr. Yali Zou is in the pink blouse and Paul Watson is next to her. Frank Kelley stands to the right behind Paul.
