This year we're facing the challenges that come with success.
We're are seeing the growth of our investment these past two years. We’ve
received news of our first endowed chair for 2004 in the form of
a major gift from Compass Bank. It creates the Charles E. McMahen
Endowed Chair in Accountancy & Taxation. Charles McMahen is
a distinguished accounting alumnus and veteran Texas banker and
rancher who recently retired from Compass Bank as Vice Chairman
and head of Corporate Development and Corporate Banking.
We're building
a new undergraduate curriculum with an innovative global cluster
of courses encompassing
the economic, political, and historical knowledge necessary to
do business internationally. A new business
law and ethics module is being developed drawing on the expertise
of dozens of professionals who’ve participated in our Leadership
and Ethics Weeks. A new certificate program in the business of
natural gas taught jointly with the school of engineering will
soon be introduced. We’re
exploring a revitalized joint JD MBA and advanced graduate electives
in legal issues surrounding the energy industry.
In this issue of the Dean’s Journal, you’ll take a
walk into the Houston Fortune 500 community and also see the writing
methods and current research of a renowned business-management
author.
We’ll continue to shine the spotlight on our amazing corporate
partners and world-class faculty so that you can share our enthusiasm
for the quality business education available here at the Bauer
College of Business.
Sincerely,

Arthur Warga
