The 2009 University of Houston football season marked the launch of the Bauer Business Leaders Program, a joint effort between the UH Bauer College of Business and UH Football that aims to connect student athletes with prominent Houston business leaders.

Each Cougar home game featured two honorary Guest Sideline Coaches, who attended the pre-game meal with the team and coaches, participated in all team meetings before the game, arrived to the game on the team bus, and participated in the traditional Cougar Walk with the team and the Cougar marching band and cheer team.

The first season of the Bauer Business Leaders Program proved to be a rousing success, not only by connecting successful alumni with UH athletes but also by lending even more excitement to the Cougars’ winning season.

“Bauer is a first-class organization, and their alumni and supporters lead the business community,” said Justin Moore, assistant athletics director for football operations. “We believe this partnership will enhance the connection between UH Athletics and Houston’s business leaders, and will be a great program for everyone involved.”

With an undefeated record at Robertson Stadium this year, the Cougars clinched the Conference USA West Division for the first time since 2006. The team headed to North Carolina to play for the league title against East Division champion East Carolina, falling short in their attempt for a 2009 C-USA Championship, 38-32.

Ending a remarkable football season with a 10-3 record and ranked No. 25 in the country, the Cougars will participate in the Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl on December 31 in Fort Worth, Texas, squaring off against the Air Force Academy in a rematch of last season’s Armed Forces Bowl.
