  • HOUSTON LIVESTOCK SHOW & RODEO LASSOES IN
$344 MILLION ECONOMIC IMPACT FOR THE CITY

Although the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo’s financial impact is felt by people and businesses directly involved with the organization, many other businesses in and around the city receive economic benefits from this massive event, which is estimated to have an economic impact of more than $344 million. UH Bauer visiting professor Ruxandra Prodan, who does research in finance and economics, can comment on how the largest rodeo in the world and the second largest fair in North America brings in revenue to the Houston metropolitan area.

To schedule an interview with Prodan, see Media Contacts section below.

  • BAUER MBA STUDENTS WIN REGIONAL COMPETITION, HEAD TO NYC FOR NATIONAL ROUND
A team of four MBA students from UH Bauer’s Cougar Investment Fund are headed to New York City this month to represent the Gulf Coast in the Chartered Financial Analyst Investment Research Challenge. The competition pits the best student stock analysis teams in the nation against each other, with the top team going to Hong Kong to vie for the global title. The Bauer group beat out teams from Texas schools and out-of-state teams from Louisiana State University and Tulane in February during a conference held at Southern Methodist University, in which the teams had to prepare and present an analysis on Rent-a-Center.

  • WOULD YOU LIKE FRIES AND A CALORIE COUNT WITH THAT?
With legislation requiring menu labeling in restaurants taking effect in New York City and Houston’s own Texas Children’s Hospital offering up nutritional content on the menu board in its McDonalds, health care marketers are debating whether or not consumers pay any attention to the added information. UH Bauer professor Betsy Gelb, who once headed the college’s Institute for Health Care Marketing, says there is mixed evidence of how well it influences food choices.

To schedule an interview with Gelb, see Media Contacts section below.
