Video FAQ
- Q: What type of video can I produce?
- A: The following descriptions detail the types of videos the Office of Communications can produce for you or your organization:
- Interview – A formal interview might take place on a set with the host seated behind a desk with the person being interviewed seated opposite the host in a chair. An informal interview could be someone in a reporter role interviewing a coach on the sidelines of a football game. Additionally, the interviewer may be seen or unseen.
- Documentary/Feature – A documentary or feature video combines elements such as voice over, music, photos, interviews and footage of the event to help tell a story. The processing time for these videos will be longer because of the required creativity and production time.
- That Bauer Girl – TBG videos are similar to interview videos, but your video would be hosted by the college character, “That Bauer Girl.” These videos can also combine music, photos and event footage.
- Instructional/Educational – These videos include WebCT classes, workshops and panels. For these videos, please contact the video team for scheduling and options. Mark Alvarado: malvarado3@uh.edu, 713-743-3686.
- Q: I want to use video to promote a program or department. How do I plan for this?
- A: If intended use is promotional, the Office of Communications can help you plan. Contact communications manager Jessica Robertson at 713-743-4348 and she will arrange a planning meeting to go over the scope and objectives of your project.
- Q: What if I want to record a lecture?
- A: Lectures not exceeding two hours in length are generally easier to record. If your lecture is more than two hours, you should determine for what purpose is your end need.
- Q: How far ahead should I plan video for my event?
- A: The Office of Communications asks for two weeks notice before the scheduled event. However, having as much preparation time as possible makes the production process much smoother.
- Q: When will my video be ready?
- A: Two weeks is the minimum turn around time, but processing time depends on the type of video being produced. Any video recorded that exceeds more than two hours will take longer to convert, compress and may take up to 4-5 weeks to be completed into a finished product. It is essential that you understand the nature of your intended use of the video.
- Q: What if I want to record an all-day seminar or forum?
- A: This can be accomplished, but turnaround will take 4-6 weeks. We would strongly recommend that you select key parts of the conference to record. You will also be required to submit a cost center for billing of all related expenses such as DVD production. Again, please determine what your intended use is for the final video. Do you want a shelf copy or something to send an expert who participated in the panel? Please book our videographer one to two months in advance since recording an all day seminar will require 8-10 hours of set up time and labor.
- Q: Can I post my video on the Bauer Web site?
- A: Videos can be posted to the Bauer Web site. The Office of Communications will ultimately determine the appropriate area (or areas) of the site to house your video. Please keep in mind that web storage space for videos exceeding seven minutes may require discussion for other options.
- Q: Who should I contact for video inquiries?
- A: If you have not yet submitted a request or met with Bauer College’s videographer to discuss a project, contact communications manager Jessica Robertson (jnrobertson@uh.edu or 713-743-4348) or Director of Communications Chester Jacinto (cjacinto@uh.edu or 713-743-4609).
- If you have already made your request and confirmed the project, contact videographer Mark Alvarado (malvarado3@uh.edu or 713-743-3686) or Bauer College video intern Mindy Vasquez (mvasquez@bauer.uh.edu or 713-743-4257).
