Admissions Requirements

The admission requirements of the Bauer College of Business (see Section 2.00 of the college policies) represent the minimum criteria for a candidate to be considered for admission into the Ph.D. program in Accountancy and Taxation. Subject to meeting these requirements, the Departmental Ph.D. Committee reviews the candidate's application and makes recommendations to the Graduate Programs Office of the College. The Departmental Ph.D. Admissions consists of not less than four tenured faculty members appointed annually by the Departmental Chairperson. The Departmental Ph.D. Coordinator serves on the committee as its chairperson.

Under most circumstances, applications are processed in the Spring, and admitted students begin coursework in the Fall semester following admission. However, the Departmental Ph.D. Committee may choose to review an application at other times. The Ph.D. application is available online at www.bauer.uh.edu/graduate/admissions/ The application deadline is February 1.

Financial Assistance

The Department of Accountancy and Taxation typically provides financial assistance to all Ph.D. students requesting such aid. Compensation ranges from $31,870 to $35,710, based on a $2100 per month stipend with annual increases through the third year, also on a fellowship during a student's first two years and teaching compensation thereafter, plus tuition waiver (less student-paid fees)." Additional support depends on factors such as availability of funds, the strength of the application and any teaching responsibilities. Every May or June, each Ph.D. student will be evaluated by the Departmental Ph.D. Committee for continuation in the program and eligibility to receive financial aid.
