Clickers at Bauer College
A number of core and upper level classes at Bauer College will be using Clickers in the classroom. Students are required to make a one-time purchase of a clicker before the start of the class. Details about what clickers are, what classes are using them, how they will be used, which model to buy, and where to buy them are provided here. Click on each link to read more.
Bauer College is using TurningPoint clickers only. Please do not purchase any other brand. For more details, please read the questions below. |

What is a Clicker?
A Clicker is an in-class electronic polling device that looks like a TV remote. Colleges and universities are increasingly using Clicker as a means of making the classroom more interactive and engaging for students.
Some of the ways in which you will use it include:- To take a quiz and get instant grades
- To participate in opinion polls and surveys
- To engage in competitive games and debates
- To register your attendance
Clickers provide instant feedback on your comprehension of concepts covered in the lecture – no more waiting for quiz results to come in.

Which classes at Bauer will use Clickers? Will one Clicker work for all classes?
In general , you can expect to use Clickers in the following courses. More classes may be added to the list and depending on the semester, some sections may not require a Clicker. You can check the course listing or through myUH to determine if the section will require a Clicker. In addition you need to buy just ONE clicker. It will work in all classes you enroll in right up to the time you graduate. Check to see what class section requires a clicker by looking under the notes section of the course.

Where can I buy the Clicker? Which model should I buy?
If you are enrolled in a class that uses clickers, you must purchase TurningPoint’s ResponseCard RF with an LCD screen. These clickers are available on campus at the Barnes & Noble Bookstore at the University Center. The $40 price includes tax and built-in lifetime activation. Note: Book loans can be used to purchase an RF-LCD Response Pad.
Keep your receipt safe. If your clicker does not work, you may need to get a replacement from the vendor. Barnes and Noble will replace the faulty clicker if it cannot be fixed.
If you chose to buy the clicker on the web, please make sure to select the correct model, and order well ahead of semester start time so you have the clicker with you on the first day of class. You may also buy a used clicker from another student who no longer needs it.
If you previously purchased an eInstruction clicker, and are now about to buy a TurningPoint response pad, you are eligible to receive a $7 discount. Bring the eInstruction clicker with you to Barnes and Noble, add your name to the sign-up sheet, and receive your discount as you purchase the TurningPoint response pad.
You need to buy only one clicker. It will work in all classes that use Clickers. You will have to register it in each class that uses clickers. When you no longer need your clicker (such as when you graduate) you can resell it or gift it to friends and peers. For detailed purchasing information, please contact UH Barnes & Noble Bookstore:
- Address: 4800 Calhoun Rd, 126 University Center

What if I already own an older model of the Clicker? Can I use the one I own?
If you already own the older model without the LCD screen, you can still use it and get full credit for it.

How can I register my Clicker?
You need to register your Clicker so that it becomes uniquely associated with you. This ensures that you get the necessary credit for participation in class. The link for registering your Clicker will be provided on the course home page on Blackboard. Your instructor will also provide the information in class.
Registration will require you to enter the device ID (made up of six alphanumeric characters) located below the barcode. There is no letter “O” in the ID. Enter it as zero.
Keep in mind that you will have to register your Clicker in EACH class. If you are enrolled in three classes that use Clickers, you will have to register your Clicker in each class, using the link provided to you on Blackboard.

What is expected of me with regards to Clicker use? Who can use my Clicker?
Your participation in class is very important, so please have your Clicker with you on the first day of class. Purchase or order it well ahead of time. Check the battery life periodically, and replace the battery if you think it may die in class.
If a new Clicker that you have purchased does not work after registration, please contact the vendor for repair or replacement.
The same academic honesty regulations apply to use of clickers in class as they do in the case of any online or paper quiz, test or assignment. You should operate only your own clicker. Using more than one clicker (operating one on someone else’s behalf) is considered academic dishonesty and will invite consequences. Please uphold the values of our college and do not allow anyone else to operate your Clicker.
