How to Calculate Your Grade Point Average
The University of Houston operates on a 4.0 point system for calculating grade point average (GPA); each letter grade earns a specified number of grade points. Repeated courses are counted in the determination of your UH GPA. However developmental, remedial and ESL courses are not used in the calculation of your UH GPA. Grades of S, U, I, and W are not assigned grade point values and are not used in the computation of the grade point average.

To calculate a GPA, divide the total grade points earned divided by the number of semester hours taken here at UH.
Example: A student made an A- in a 3 hr. class, B in a 3 hr. class, C in a 3 hr. class, and a B+ in a 5 hr. class.
To Calculate the GPA:

The Total Grade Points (42.66) divided by the Total Credit Hours (14)= GPA: 42.66/14 = 3.04 GPA

For Information over the phone call VIP at 713-743-8484 and follow these steps:
- Enter your Student ID number (Social Security Number)
- Enter your PIN Code
- Choose ‘Records’ option
