Bauer PPA students have a strategic advantage of going to a university in the heart of the Texas economy. Houston businesses are actively recruiting students from the Bauer College of Business, and more specifically the PPA. The program has a close partnership with industries and accounting firms from the Houston area. In addition to hosting our colloquium course, these companies have built a strong relationship with the program through their recruiting efforts.
Typically, each spring semester PPA students participate in the recruiting process for either an internship or a full-time position. Although the internship period may vary by each company, accounting firms recruit interns mainly a year in advance for the following spring semester. Industry companies primarily recruit in the fall for summer internships.
The recruiting process begins early in the student’s junior or senior year. Any student intending to get an internship must participate in a Career Recruiting Workshop held at several times during the year by the Career Services. This enables a student to post their resumes online, from which potential recruiters make their selection. In addition, students have several opportunities to have face-to-face contact with the recruiter including Bauer College of Business Bi-Annual Career Fair. PPA students also have an exclusive opportunity to make an impression at the PPA Mixer held early in the spring semester.
Students are usually pre-selected by accounting firms for on-campus interviews between March and April. After that, firms observe a strict two-week hands-off period starting in May to allow students to concentrate on their final exams. By late May, students are called in for office visits, which serve as a second interview.
