International Travel Information
Given the length of the flight and overnight flight effects, you will need to plan on departing early enough to arrive at least by late morning Sunday. From Houston, an evening flight out on Saturday will arrive in Santiago by mid-morning Sunday. Evening flights departing Saturday should return you home by mid-day Sunday.
Of course, you are free to add vacation time either before the program begins or after (if you aren't planning to enroll in traditional Spring courses).
Airlines
You are free to make arrangements to Santiago on any carrier available. If you are a member of frequent flyer programs with American Airlines or Continental, you may be able to take advantage of those programs. Check with the airlines' program representatives. You may also be able to get better rates through a corporate discount program within your company, so be sure to check with internal travel offices.
The Chilean airline LAN Chile connects Chile with the United States, Latin America, Europe and Asia. LANChile is a partner with American Airlines. You might be able to use your American Airlines Advantage miles to book a trip to Easter Island (before our week together), or to book passage to Santiago if LANChile schedules work best for you.
Deals on Tickets!
Here is an option for good deals on tickets:
STA Travel, here on campus, can make arrangements for you. They have special student fares. In addition, STA Travel has International Student Travel ID cards which provides many discounts to museums, etc., as part of the deal (about $20 per year for the card). STA Travel specialists have been very helpful for students in our programs in the past.
