- What is the Bauer Professional Program in Accounting?
- The Professional Program in Accounting (PPA) is designed to prepare students to sit for the Uniform CPA exam, a requirement for careers in public accounting. The program requires undergraduate accounting students to enter the program in their junior year and maintain a 3.0 grade point average both overall and in their major. The program currently has approximately 300 of the top accounting students in the Bauer College of Business.
- What are some advantages of the Program?
- The program allows students to complete both a BBA in Accounting and a Master of Science in Accountancy as quickly as possible. The program also has a weekly colloquium that allows students to network with business professionals. Students typically interview for internships during the spring of their junior year. Most internship positions lead to offers of permanent employment after graduation. Business partners participating in the internship program include the top accounting firms and most of the top corporate employers of accounting graduates in Houston.
- When do I apply?
- If you entered the University of Houston as a freshman, you may apply the semester you are enrolled in ACCT 2332. If you are a junior-level transfer student, you may apply the semester you are enroll in ACCT 3367. Please check admission requirements for more information.
- How do I apply?
- The web based application is located online at www.bauer.uh.edu//undergraduate/accounting/ppa/forms/application.asp under the subheading Future Students.
- What are the financial and time commitments?
- There are no additional fees associated with admission to the program or with courses in the PPA. The only time and financial commitment consists of a one-hour colloquium course at noon on Fridays during the fall and spring semesters. PPA students will pay to take the GMAT, to apply to their graduate year of the PPA, and also will pay graduate tuition and fees for graduate level courses.
- When I complete my undergraduate course requirements, can I then receive my bachelor's degree?
- Yes, University of Houston PPA students will receive their B.B.A in Accounting diploma upon completion of all undergraduate accounting major and minor requirements. At that time UH PPA students are expected to apply for admission to the Master of Science in Accountancy and complete their master degree. Upon completion of all M.S. in Accountancy requirements the student will receive their M.S. in Accountancy diploma.
- Do I need an internship in order to fulfill the requirements for the program?
- No, student internships in the UH PPA are acquired through a competitive recruiting process. UH PPA students have the option of not pursuing an accounting internship, and students may not always receive an internship offer.
