Our History
The Global Energy Management Institute (UH - GEMI) was started as a resource specifically for the energy industry from the Bauer College of Business at the University of Houston.
The journey started in 2001 when Dr. Arthur Warga was appointed Dean of the Bauer College of Business. A part of his vision was to engage the Energy industry which has strongly influenced Houston's economy. Since the focus of the Institute was to provide education fulfilling the requirements of the energy industry, it was imperative that people from the industry itself be the driving force.
From its ambitious beginning, Arthur and others like Dr. Praveen Kumar, Professor and Chair of the Finance Department, have provided leadership that has evolved into the innovative offerings. The innovation is reflected in the energy specific Certificate Programs, numerous Symposia and Roundtables organized round the year.
We are constantly seeking out alliances with other companies interested in supporting our goal of educating and enriching the new energy workers with practical knowledge and research. Since its inception in 2001, UH GEMI has been seeking alliance with organizations and companies to continue promoting its open and neutral platform as a necessity for healthy energy markets.
