Internship Information for Bauer Students

2010 RCC Intership Mixer

The Rockwell Career Center prepares Bauer students for successful transitioning from the academic to the business world. To learn about available internship opportunities, log into Bauer Career Gateway and search for positions labeled as “internships”.

What is an internship and why should I get one?

It is a structured educational experience which incorporates a productive work experience as a regular part of a college student's curriculum that involves the student working in a professional setting under the supervision and monitoring of practicing professionals. See student and employer advantages of internships document to learn more.

When do I apply for an internship?

The earlier you start, the more time you have to gain experience and see if your chosen profession is really for you. The best way to find an internship is to apply for many. The internship process might be long and tedious, so you want to allow yourself enough time to look and schedule interviews. Rockwell Career Center receives internship listings continually. It's probably best to begin your internship search the semester prior to your desired placement. Utilize this internship timeline document as a guide to follow during your internship search process.

Internship Academic Credit Information

The internship course is a “registration by permission only” course for  junior or senior students with a declared major. Students wishing to enroll in the course must submit the required forms before deadline to begin the enrollment process.

Reporting a non-credit internship? Log into Bauer Career Gateway and complete the “Internship Insights” survey located under the “Surveys” tab.

The Value of Interning Abroad

Completing an international internship can give you the experience and confidence you need to pursue your chosen career after college. An international internship stands out on your resume, gives you an edge in a tough job market, and affords you a valuable global perspective. Interning abroad can also introduce you to different ways of working, giving you more flexibility and greater comfort with diverse points of view as you enter the workforce. Please visit the University of Houston Office of International Studies and Programs to learn about internships and study abroad programs for business students.
