new & PROSPECTIVE students
orientation
All new students should attend New Student Orientation. At Orientation THEA status is established and Freshman Advising Stops (placed on all new freshman) are cleared. Orientation allows new students to receive a thorough and comprehensive overview of UH student support services, placement, prerequisite and core curriculum information, meet with their college/department advisors, and register for their courses. The information at Orientation is critical to student success.
It is recommended that newly admitted students bring the results of the Texas Higher Education Assessment (THEA) test to Orientation since THEA scores affect course selection. Unless exempt, students are required to take THEA prior to enrollment. See http://usd.uh.edu//tsp/taspidx.htm for exemption criteria and additional information. It is also recommended that newly admitted students who are required to take the Math Placement Exam do so prior to Orientation and bring the results. Refer to Placement Criteria at http://usd.uh.edu/usdforms/placrit.htm. Students may register for this test at http://TESTING.LAS.UH.EDU or contact Testing Services, 200 Student Service Center (SSC), 713-743-5444. Students unable to take the Math Placement Exam prior to Orientation will have an opportunity to take it during Orientation.
Transfer students can check the status of transfer equivalencies by visiting to Enrollment Services Online. Students should log in, go to "Admissions", and click transfer credit. If transcripts have been evaluated, please print, and bring to Orientation.
For more information about registration for Summer/Fall Orientation, contact the Dean of Students Office at (713) 743-5470.
