Undergraduate Finance FAQ

I have enrolled in more than one FINA 4397 course. Will each of these apply toward my major or will I only recieve credit for one course?

Students may take and recieve credit for multiple sections of FINA 4397 as long as the course titles are different. They may apply as FINA electives (for FINA majors) or as advanced business electives.

I am a graduating senior. Can I be added into closed classes? Can I go to the professor the first day of classes and then be added in?

No students will be added into closed classes. Professors do not have the authority to enroll students in a closed course over quota. If you are a graduating senior and are having difficulty enrolling in classes that you need for graduation, notify your advisor immediately after the first round of the registration cycle has passed. After this point, registration in classes needed for graduation is not guaranteed.

May I take a prerequisite course (such as DISC 3331 or FINA 3332) at the same time as a 4000-level FINA course?

No. Prerequisites are strictly enforced and must be successfully completed before taking any course in the Bauer College of Business. Students that enroll in a course without sufficient proof of the successful completion of its prerequisites will be dropped without a tuition refund.

I want to take a course at a local community college and a course at UH during the same semester. How does that affect UH residency requirements for the “last 30 hours” rule?

If you take a class at UH and another institution during the same semester, you are not considered “in residence.” Please be sure that you have at least 30 more hours to complete at UH after the completion of the semester in which you take courses at more than one institution.

Can I double-count an approved substitution for a FINA elective (such as ECON 3334) toward the International Area of Study minor or Social Science Writing Intensive requirement?

No. Although the course in questions may qualify to satisfy both requirements, only one requirement will be filled.

I was hired for an internship with a company and will be performing work related to finance. How can I receive academic credit for my internship?

Please visit this site for information relating to receiving academic creidt for internships:  http://www.bauer.uh.edu/Career/Internship/internship.htm

What qualifies as an advanced business elective?

Any 3000-4000 level business course. There is a list of all business courses at www.bauer.uh.edu/undergraduate/prereqs.htm

I am a declared foreign language minor. Can I use some of my language courses toward my BBA requirements?

For students following the pre-2005 degree plan, up to 6 hours of foreign language courses that do not count toward the minor may be used as advanced business electives.  (Note: This is contingent upon successful completion of the foreign language minor.)  Students declared on the 2005-07 degree plan may apply 6 hours of 3000-4000 level foreign language courses as advanced business electives.
