Bauer undergraduate academic suspension

Definition - A business student already on Academic Probation who earns less than a 2.0 semester GPA at UH is put on Academic Suspension by the Bauer College of Business and the Univeristy of Houston.  While a student is on Academic Suspension the student will not be able to register or take classes at UH.

University Policy

The University mandates a specified minimum time period during which a student is ineligible to apply for readmission to the University.  During this period a student should consider the obstacles to his/her performance including: adressing and preventing those obstacles from re-ocurring and strategies to acheive academic excellence in the future.

  • The first suspension is for the period of at least one semester.
  • The second suspension is for a period of at least 12 months.  (Business students on their second suspension are usually not re-admitted; see Bauer policy below.)
  • A third suspension will result in permanent suspension from the University of Houston.

University Suspension Policies

Bauer Policy

If you are not officially listed as a business major and you are on suspension at the university, you must seek readmission through the college of your major.  Your official major can be verified through enrollment services online

  • Junior, seniors, and post-baccalaureate business students are permanently suspended from the Bauer College and are ineligible to be considered for readmission to the Bauer College of Business.
  • Readmission for freshmen and sophmore students is very selective.  Students one their second suspension are rarely readmitted by the Bauer College regardless of classification.  The reason is because pre-business majors must have a 2.5 cumulative GPA at UH to file a degree plan by their junior year.
  • Freshmen and Sophmore students are not automatically readmitted.
  • The Bauer College of Business does not readmit business students for summer sessions.
  • Students who are ineligible may read 'Academic Alternatives' below.

Procedure for Readmission

*Readmission to the Bauer College of Business will be considered during the following periods (see chart below).  No late applications will be accepted.

Fall Semester
Spring Semester

January 2 - July 1

September 1 - December 1

Note: Bauer College does not readmit students for the summer semester.

  • Freshmen and sophmores need to fill out a Suspension Pre-Screening Form and turn it into our front desk, MH 262 or fax to 713-743-4942
  • To be considered for readmission, you must have completed coursework at another university or college since your last attendance at the University of Houston.   If you are currently enrolled at another school, your midterm grades can be reviewed.  Generally, a grade of   ‘B’ or higher is required.
  • You will be sent a response within 5-7 business days at your UH email alias.  If your UH email adress is not working, we will be unable to respond.
  • The response will provide you with individualized instructions on your next steps.

**NOTE: Completion of the Suspension Pre-Screening Form does not guarantee readmission nor is it automatic.

Academic Alternatives for students who are not readmitted

  • Readmission may be requested to the university through the University Studies Division (room 320 Student Service Center).  Pursuing this option means you will be changing your major from pre-business to University Studies Division while under contract with another college.
  • Students may consider researching other programs and colleges in the Houston area to continue their Business degree.
  • Students may come in and speak with a pre-business advisor during walk-in hours to discuss in greater detail or ask any other questions.
